304 Stainless Steel Rectangular Section Has The Following Major Characteristics:

In the same way, as most alloys, stainless steel rectangular section is also made up of alloying elements mixed with a base metal supporting the development of high-tech or modern industries. In addition to carbon and iron, steel also contains trace elements such as nickel, manganese, and similar elements, which give it unique properties.

Many iron-based materials experience corrosion due to the chromium present in stainless steel 304, also known as SS 304.

The composition of stainless steel 304

A 304 stainless steel is austenitic stainless steel of the T-300 series. This alloy consists of a minimum of 18% chromium and nickel, combined with a maximum of 0.08% carbon, making it a Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy.

Stainless steel grade 304 is the industry standard. In terms of its versatility and potential uses, it is one of the most commonly used stainless steel available. Forming and welding are excellent characteristics of this material. 304 has an austenitic structure that is balanced enough to be deep drawn without annealing in between. As a result, this grade of steel plays a major role in the production of stainless parts, such as Rectangular Steel Pipes, sinks, saucepans, and hollowware. There are many applications for Grade 304, including industrial, architectural, and transportation uses. It can be readily broken or rolled into a variety of parts. Additionally, it exhibits excellent welding properties. It is not necessary to anneal thin sections after welding.

304 stainless steel has the following characteristics

  • A high level of corrosion resistance

In many atmospheric environments and with many corrosive media, stainless steel grade 304 is a great choice. Pitting and crevice corrosion occur in warm chloride environments, as well as stress corrosion cracking above 60°C (approximately). 304 grade has resistance to potable water up to 200 mg/L chlorides at ambient temperatures, and 150 mg/L at 60 °C.

  • Resistance to heat

Oxidation resistance for grade 304 is excellent at intermittent temperatures up to 870 degrees Celsius and at continuous temperatures up to 925 degrees Celsius. In the 415-860 °C range, the use of 304 is not advisable if subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance is crucial. This temperature range is possible for grade 304L because it is highly resistant to carbide precipitation.

The grade 304H is more resistant to thermal degradation at elevated temperatures, which makes it ideal for pressure-containing applications at temperatures up to 800°C (approximately). A temperature range of 425-860°C will cause sensitization of 304H. It will reduce the corrosion resistance of aqueous solutions, even for high-temperature applications.

  • Adaptability to machining

The machinability of rectangle stainless steel 304 is good. Following are some measures that can enhance machining:

  • It is necessary to sharpen cutting edges. Work hardening is more likely to occur on dull edges.
  • It is possible to make shallow cuts with sufficient depth to prevent work hardening by riding on the steel’s surface.
  • The use of chip breakers is essential to prevent the accumulation of swarf on the work surface
  • A low or poor thermal conductivity of austenitic alloys causes heat to concentrate at the cutting edges. Consequently, cooling systems and lubricating systems are indispensable and required in greater quantities.

Various applications

  • The main uses of food processing equipment are beer brewing, milk processing, and winemaking.
  • Equipment and appliances for the kitchen, such as sinks, benches, troughs, and equipment.
  • Paneling, railings, and trim for architectural projects.
  • Transportable chemical containers.
  • The heat exchanger.
  • A woven or welded screen typically finds application in mining, quarrying, and water filtration.
  • A threaded fastener.
  • Springs.
